November 29

November 30, 2007

Today was much better than yesterday, in that I was actually productive. I got up on time and got things done, for once.

Things I did well:

  • got up on time
  • got the big to-dos done
  • resisted the snack temptation at work
  • the little things

Things I could have done better:

  • got stuff done earlier (read: refrain from procrastination) so I could have worked on Grinch
  •  resisted the snack temptation after work

The plan for tomorrow:

Working 8-4, go to the gym and pick up my Grease Pit paycheck afterward, get some Grinch work and maybe some general practice done in the evening.

I was a major bum today and didn’t really do much of anything. The jam didn’t happen for lack of a jam space. I slept in, so my plans evaporated. I’m going to bed early tonight, so I should be able to get things done right tomorrow.

What I did well:

  • the little things
  • going to bed at a reasonable time

What I could have done better:

  • woke up on time
  • actually get something done instead of waste the day on the intarwebs
  • skipped that bowl of ice cream

The plan for tomorrow:

Pretty much the same as yesterday, but substitute work for the evening stuff.

Things were botched once again today: I had sleep problems yet again last night, so I opted to get up at 10:30 rather than go through with the plans but go the whole day on less than three hours’ sleep. The good news is that I did manage to get some of the things done.

What I did well:

  • despite sleeping in, got all my to-dos done except going to the gym
  • got some guitar practice in on top of that
  • the little things

What I could have done better:

  • getting to bed at a decent time
  • controlling the late-night snacking

The plan for tomorrow:

Gym and oil change. At least some token work on Grinch recording. Write email to K. I don’t know if the jam is going forward as originally planned, so that might be subbed for general practice and watching the Sabres game.

Today was a good day. The plan was to get up early and do a bunch of stuff: oil change, put in the job application at B-wd., go to the gym and go to the credit union. The plan was blown when I couldn’t get to sleep last night, although I did make the most of my insomnia by getting up and doing some cleaning. Although I slept in because of that, I did restring one of my guitars before work (no easy task on a 7-string with a Floyd) in advance of a jam on Wednesday. I also got some more cleaning/organizing done after work.

What I did well:

  • made the most of last night’s insomnia and the chaos it wreaked on today’s plans
  • restringed the 7620 before my Wednesday deadline
  • my daily small tasks: hygiene stuff, calisthenics, cleaning up after myself (which I will refer to as ‘the little things’)

What I could have done better:

  • not stayed up quite so late

The plan for tomorrow:

I’m working a 12-hour shift, so I won’t be able to do too much. The plan is to get up around 8 and do all the errands I meant to do today, with the exception of the oil change, which will have to wait until Wednesday. I’ll also get some more cleaning done and try to finish the list of personal trivia that I’ve owed Friend K. for too long.

This is a quest.

Z here, on a mission of self-improvement. I’m a twentysomething who can’t seem to get out of his own way, and I’m starting this blog as a record of my day-to-day victories and setbacks. It’s intended as a motivator of sorts.

…but how?

I’ll attempt to write a post every day that will be a brief summary of what I did well, what I could have done better, and my overall mindset. I’ll also do ‘week in review’ posts that will reflect on the bigger picture.

Here goes!
