December 30 and 2008 primer

December 31, 2007

Today was moderately productive. I didn’t get my resume finished like I had intended, but I did get some organization/clerical stuff done and fit in two hours of guitar practice.

Things I did well:

  • the little things
  • ample guitaring

Things I could have done better:

  • got to bed earlier
  • finished the resume, etc.

The plan for tomorrow:

Finish the resume, go to the gym and credit union, at least an hour of guitaring, and some reading. Also prepare tracking spreadsheets for 2008.

2008

Today marks the effective beginning of the new year as far as my objectives go. For the first time, I’m seriously making resolutions:

  1. Drop somewhere around 40 pounds
  2. Get my Internet addiction under control
  3. Get a new job
  4. Firm up plans to go back to school
  5. Practice, write and record more!!

My weekly minimum targets will be four trips to the gym and seven hours of guitar practice. I’m also going to start working on the keyboard again after having let that lapse for quite a while, although it will obviously be secondary to guitar. My plan to combat my Internet problem includes suspending my account at CJ, which I will request this week. I’m finally feeling confident enough to pull this off!

December 26, 2007

I took a break from this project while K was in town for a visit. I pretty much put everything on hold from Thursday night through Monday afternoon. It was an excellent time, but now it’s time to get back down to bidness. Today was mostly good, if uneventful…

Things I did well:

  • the little things
  • kick-started the job search

Things I could have done better:

  • written that email to B (and reply to K)
  •  more guitar practice

The plan for tomorrow:

Not much of anything, as I’m working a double. These next few days are going to suck, as I’m working 8a-12a tomorrow followed by 8-5:30 Thursday and 12a-8a Thursday night/Friday morning. I’m planning to take my computer to work tomorrow to work up a resume so I can apply for a position at the local Apple Store.

December 20, 2007

Today brought a continued measure of bounce. I finished setting up my phone this morning and substantially finished cleaning my room this evening in advance of K’s visit.

Things I did well:

  • finished with the phone and the bedroom
  • the little things

Things I could have done better:

  • started cleaning earlier so I’d have time to write those two emails
  • gotten to bed earlier

The plan for tomorrow:

Get up well before work, write at least B’s email, make car payment, get Dad’s present (super important!!) and go to the gym if I have time, then meet up with K after her flight lands!

December 19, 2007

I certainly found my bounce today. Now, that doesn’t mean it was a perfect day, but it was a marked improvement over my recent performance.

Things I did well:

  • got all my errands out of the way
  • made a lot of progress on cleaning

Things I could have done better:

  • the little things (due to the cleaning)

The plan for tomorrow:

Finish cleaning the room and write/finish the two emails I’ve been meaning to send, and maybe get some guitar playing in if time allows.

December 18, 2007

OK, so I’ve fallen off the wagon. Now I’ve climbed back on. :) If I was to sum up the days since my last post, it would go something like this: things I did well: not much. things I could have done better: pretty much everything. I got in a rut and I lost my ‘bounce.’ Well, I’ve found it.

As for today, I overslept so I didn’t get any errands done. My replacement phone (I lost my phone last week) came today, so I just need to get a new SIM. I did get some cleaning done after work, but now I’m up too late. :-\

Things I did well:

  • salvaged at least something positive out of the day
  • the little things

Things I could have done better:

  • woke up on time
  • got to bed on time
  • done errands

The plan for tomorrow:

I’m working 8-4 again. Credit union on lunch break, AT&T store and gym after work. At home, guitar practice and room cleaning.

December 11

December 12, 2007

Today was a very good bounce back from the last few crummy days. I got up on time and got to work on time, went to the credit union on my lunch break and to the gym after work. The evening was basically unproductive, however. That’s going to have to change if I’m going to finish Grinch this week.

Things I did well:

  • did everything on time
  • the little things

Things I could have done better:

  • been more productive after work

The plan for tomorrow:

Work 8-4, gym, Grinch work.

Week of 12/9-12/15

December 11, 2007

Objectives for this week:

  • finish “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” (this will require a lot of time and effort, but I can get it done if I buckle down.)
  • get to work early every day, in light of this ‘tardiness reduction’ stuff.

December 8-10

December 11, 2007

Saturday and Sunday pretty much stunk. I didn’t really get anything done. I slept in on Saturday, which didn’t leave enough time to go to the gym or get any errands done. Sunday was my 8am-12am double, and I got absolutely dick done.

Today was only a little better. I overslept yet again and didn’t get errands done or make it to the gym. I’m worried about getting to sleep tonight as it’s not yet been 12 hours that I’ve been awake. Since I have to work at 8 and, at some point during the day, attend a ‘tardiness reduction session’ (I knew all those two-minute-late punches would come back to haunt me, even though they don’t affect my pay) along with a few other guards, it would be in my best interests to get to sleep as early as possible. So, with that in mind, as soon as I’m done with this, I’m going to hit the shower, finish up my usual nightly chores and call it a night.

Things I did well today:

  • the little things
  • ate relatively well while working at the Pit

Things I could have done better:

  • gotten to the gym or done errands or anything other than just being lazy all afternoon

The plan for tomorrow:

Go to the credit union on my lunch break, finish my errands and go to the gym after work, finish my email to K (and take those pictures that I said I’d take) and get to work on Grinch.

December 8, 2007

(late post!! just realized I didn’t publish it.) Today was alright. I wasn’t expecting to get much done, and I didn’t. I overslept and was lucky to make it to work only two minutes late. I did get some little organizational things done.

Things I did well:

  • the little things
  • finally did those organizational things

Things I could have done better:

  • woke up on time

The plan for tomorrow:

I’m going to take it relatively easy. A trip to the gym is in order, and maybe some guitar practice, depending on when I get up. I should also stop at Rite Aid/Walgreens/CVS.

December 6

December 7, 2007

First, yesterday: what a crap day. I did get to the gym after work, but I was so exhausted afterward that I didn’t do anything the rest of the night.

Now for today: not a great day, but a definite bounce back from yesterday. I went to the gym, took care of some clerical stuff and finished that long-overdue email to K.

Things I did well:

  • dragged myself to the gym despite not really wanting to go tonight
  • the little things

Things I could have done better:

  • given up on watching that crummy hockey game and been productive instead
  • resisted the junk food while watching said hockey game
  • gotten to bed earlier

The plan for tomorrow:

Ha. I’m working 15 hours tomorrow…that’s the plan. If I can get things set up properly, maybe I’ll be able to get a long break and get some gym time in.
